Downtown Portland
Jump right in to the hustle and bustle of lively downtown Portland. Your team will experience the cultural offerings, art, tax-free shopping and all the food carts your hearts desire! You cannot explore downtown without stopping by “Portland’s Living Room” in the heart of downtown. Pioneer Courthouse Square is an entertaining urban park that hosts Portland’s greatest concerts, shows, festivals and farmers markets. Downtown is buzzing with excitement and is a fantastic place for a team building scavenger hunt.
Pearl District
The Pearl is Portland’s old warehouse district that is now a chic neighborhood that boasts stylish boutiques, great dining options, breweries and charming cobblestone streets for your team to revel in. Your team can get lost in a Portland landmark, Powell’s City of Books, which is home to 3 floors and 3500 sections of books. Old Town Chinatown
If you and your team are looking for some good quality fun and entertainment, Old Town Chinatown is the place to go. The city’s oldest neighborhood is one for the books with all of the awesome attractions it has to offer. You can take it easy at the Lan Su Chinese Garden or explore the history of Portland in the underground Shanghai Tunnels. Perhaps you want to meander down Ankeny Alley, which is closed off to cars throughout the year. Don’t forget to visit Voodoo Doughnut, a Portland landmark that is sure to make your bellies rumble. With all of the excitement in Old Town Chinatown, your team will be making lasting memories together!
Oregon Historical Society Museum – Exploring History
Teams visited the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, where they were tasked with taking a photo admiring the Lewis and Clark mural. This mural on the side of the building, depicts the famous explorers and their journey to Oregon, capturing a pivotal moment in American history. Their expedition aimed to map the newly acquired territory, establish trade with Native American tribes, and assert American sovereignty over the land. The Oregon Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and showcasing Oregon’s rich heritage.
Powell’s City of Books – Worlds Largest Book Store
For this stop, teams made their way to Powell’s City of Books in Portland. Powell’s City of Books is the largest used and new bookstore in the world, occupying an entire city block! Established in 1971, Powell’s has become a landmark in the literary world, housing approximately one million books across its sprawling complex. The challenge for participants was to explore this massive library and search for the oldest-looking and newest-looking books they could find.
Golden West Hotel – Historic Landmark
Next, teams visited the site of the former Golden West Hotel in Portland. This hotel is a significant landmark in the history of the city’s African American community. In the early 1900s, the Golden West Hotel was one of the largest establishments catering to African Americans in the Northwest. It served as a place of employment, socialization, and refuge during a time when many other establishments were segregated. Today, the building on W. Broadway features display panels and audio narratives that detail this rich history. The challenge for participants was to engage with these educational tools and capture a photo of their team learning about this important historical landmark.
Portland – The City of Roses
Did you know Portland is nicknamed the City of Roses? This charming title dates back to the early 20th century, inspired by the city’s ideal rose-growing conditions, which stem from its mild, wet climate. Today, this legacy is celebrated annually at the Portland Rose Festival. For this stop, teams were tasked with finding any rose or group of roses around the city and capturing a photo.
North Park Blocks – Da Tung & Xi’an Bao Bao
North Park Blocks, is one of Portland’s oldest park sites. Initially, the area faced many developmental challenges, including legal battles and geographical obstacles. However, it is a beloved green space that is preserved and protected by the community. In October 2002, a significant addition was made to the park: the ‘Da Tung & Xi’an Bao Bao’ sculpture. This 12-foot bronze sculpture, depicts a young elephant standing on his father’s back, symbolizing safety and prosperity for future generations. The design, decorated with motifs from ancient Chinese mythology, represents universal peace and the deep cultural connections between Portland and China. For this stop, teams were tasked with exploring the park and taking a photo with this meaningful sculpture.
