North Park Blocks, is one of Portland’s oldest park sites. Initially, the area faced many developmental challenges, including legal battles and geographical obstacles. However, it is a beloved green space that is preserved and protected by the community. In October 2002, a significant addition was made to the park: the ‘Da Tung & Xi’an Bao Bao’ sculpture. This 12-foot bronze sculpture, depicts a young elephant standing on his father’s back, symbolizing safety and prosperity for future generations. The design, decorated with motifs from ancient Chinese mythology, represents universal peace and the deep cultural connections between Portland and China. For this stop, teams were tasked with exploring the park and taking a photo with this meaningful sculpture.
